Competitive Sport & Sport Premium
Competitive Sport
At Hartside, we encourage our children to take part in competitive sport. Competitive sport is offered in two main forms Inter and Intra School.
Inter School involves the children of Hartside competing against children from other schools. Children who are successful in inter school events can go on and represent the school at County Events and Level 3 Games.
Intra School events involve the children competing against their peers from within the school. Children will normally compete for either their year group or their house team.
We are proud to support our children in progressing through sport. We listen to the children and give them a voice in choosing new sports to try and experience. We invite representatives from local clubs to come into school and encourage children who are interested to go along and join in.
We actively seek links to local clubs when children are successful or show an interest in our curricular sports. We celebrate the success of our children through the website.
Sport Premium
The primary PE and sport premium was introduced in March 2013 to improve the provision of physical education and school sport in primary schools across England. The funding is allocated directly to primary schools and is ring-fenced. This means it may only be spent on improving the provision of PE and sport in schools.
At Hartside Primary Academy School we recognise the contribution of PE to the health and well-being of our children. We believe that an innovative, varied PE curriculum and extra-curricular opportunities have a positive influence on the concentration, attitude and academic achievement of all our children.
Our Primary School Sport’s Funding will enable us to continue and extend our provision of physical activity, physical education and school sports.
While physical activity, physical education and school sports are similar in that they all include physical movement, there are important differences between them. Physical activity is a broad term referring to all bodily movement that uses energy. This includes physical education, sports and dance activities as well as indoor and outdoor play, adventurous activities and habitual activities.
Physical education is the planned progressive learning that takes place in the timetabled school curriculum and is delivered to all pupils. This involves the children learning to move and moving to learn with the children experiencing a broad range of activities.
School sport is the structured learning that takes place beyond the curriculum, such as after school clubs. This has the potential to develop the foundation learning that take place in physical education.
Therefore, we will continue to use the funding to employ additional sports professionals to deliver after school clubs, enter into more competitive sports competitions, develop the outdoor and indoor playground areas, and train our staff to deliver high quality PE sessions. All of which will extend and develop our provision of physical activity, physical education and school sports.
