Year 1 & 2 Go back in time

Year 1 and 2 enjoyed a fabulous day out at Beamish Museum. They discovered different ways people travelled long ago, including trams, steam trains and horse and carts. They visited the quilter’s cottage and the church. They learnt how to make a clippy mat, light a fire and how to keep warm without electricity.

At the chemists, the children found out that if the globe was filled with red liquid – there was a plague in town, but if it was filled with green – all was well. In the Co-op they also found out that the different coloured packaging matched the colour of its contents apart from flour and sugar, e.g. lentils were in an orange packet.
Before lunch the children headed down to wagon shed to meet someone very special… SANTA! They all sat around the cosy fire and told him if they’d been good. He gave them a wonderful traditional game or toy as well as some food for the reindeers.

We also visited the olde fashioned sweet shop where the children chose some traditional sweets, which they couldn’t wait to sample!
It was a fantastic day out!
