EYFS

EYFS

The boys and girls have been very busy since September; finding out about dinosaurs, learning about shapes and numbers, and trying out their circus performance skills.

Nursery children have had great fun in the hall stomping like elephants, jumping like monkeys and lifting big things like strongmen!

EYFS

Reception class are very busy learning about the sounds letters make and how to write them down.

In one of our special jobs Grace uses the magic paint to reveal the words. She blends the sounds together to read the little words she finds.

EYFS

We have also been trying really hard to play together kindly. We have much more fun when we all work together like this!

Chrysalis Crazy

Two weeks ago we had a special delivery in EYFS. 5 Tiny caterpillars! They soon turned into 5 enormous hairy caterpillars. Look at them now though...

Chrysalis Crazy  Chrysalis Crazy

Once they had all crawled to the top of the tub we had to carefully move them into our Butterfly Garden net. The boys and girls decided Madeline had a steady hand and she carefully helped to move them.

We are watching them everyday and will let you know what happens next!

Space Seeds!

EYFS have a very important job to do! We are growing Space Rocket seeds. Yes you read that correctly SPACE ROCKET.

EYFS were sent two packets of seeds. One packet has been to space with the astronaut Tim Peake and one packet has been here on Earth the whole time. Our job is to look after the seeds and keep measuring them. Tim Peake is going to send us a video from the International Space Station to tell which are the space seeds. Which Rocket will grow the best? We think the Space Rocket will Zoom away!

I am the Early Years Leader at Hartside, I teach the Reception boys and girls but work with all of the children in our EYFS unit. I absolutely love playing and working in EYFS!  My favourite things to learn about are pirates and dinosaurs.  I like to teach phonics and I love to make silly songs up and have lots of fun everyday!

My favourite story is The Gruffalo by Julia Donaldson.

My favourite song is mm nn Went the Little Green Frog!

My favourite thing to play is… playing with the children outdoors where we can be as messy and noisy as we like!   I especially like making soup and pies in our mud kitchen.  Oh and finding worms and minibeasts hiding under logs (Our Miss P hates worms so we have to look for them secretly – sh!)  I love building outside with the large blocks and I am really good at building dens and castles!

Outside of school life I enjoy reading scary books, going shopping and walking my two dogs – Barry and Sid. I have two children to keep me busy at home too, they are called Alex and Tobias.

Mrs BurgessMrs Burgess

I am the Nursery teacher at Hartside. Most of the children in the school know me as 'Miss Askew' but I got married in the Summer holidays so my name changed. The children (and even some of the staff!) keep forgetting my new name but we're getting there!

At school I love sharing stories with the boys and girls in my class that they can join in with like 'The Gruffalo' and 'We're Going on a Bear Hunt'. I also get so impressed when they use their sounds all by themselves to do their writing!

In our school grounds there are some great areas to learn in and it's so much fun when we have jobs to do in the camps!

On weekends I enjoy spending time with my friends and family. I love going shopping and going out for my tea! After a busy day shopping there's nothing better than relaxing in front of the television with a lovely cup of tea!

Miss PorteusMiss Porteus

I am a Higher Level Teaching Assistant in Early Years at Hartside. I work with both Reception and Nursery boys and girls and love coming to school each day.  I love learning about superheroes and the planets! I even make spaceships for us to be astronauts and fly to the moon!

My favourite song is Peter Rabbit has a fly upon his nose.

My favourite thing to play with is the paint! I love to explore the colours by mixing it up!  I love to make junk models with the boys and girls too!  We once made the biggest robot you have ever seen!  I also love chocolate.......so if there’s any baking to be done I will be there! My favourite things to make are chocolate reindeer!

I have a little girl called Ellie who also comes to Hartside. Outside of school life we like to walk our little puppy Marley. I also spend lots of time cooking and trying new recipes.

Our Brilliant Garden!

Builders appeared in our garden. They made a right mess! They made it all muddy, holey and too dangerous for us to go outside.

But it was worth it!

We have a FANTASTIC new climbing frame!

A TERRIFIC Tree House! And an WONDERFUL water play area.

Once upon a night...

One cold and dark night when our EYFS unit is usually tucked up for the night something very strange was going on...

Little people in their pyjamas... Grown ups in their pyjamas... Head Teachers in their pyjamas... Bananas in their pyjamas... oops hang on a minute there were no bananas allowed!

What were they up to?

Everyone was enjoying reading! Dads, Lads, Brothers (even girls and Mammies joined in too) clad in their PJs flocked into EYFS to share stories, rhymes and Noisy Bottoms (The storybook)!

It was great fun and absolutely fantastic to see lots of our Dads and Mams sharing books and stories in EYFS.

Gnashers

Oh yeah you all think I have an easy life - food, water, nice house, plenty of cuddles.... the easy life of the EYFS guinea pig. You all think it is a breeze! But the boys and girls rope me into all of their crazy ideas!

They find some teeth - what could that possibly have to do with me?

"They must be our Herbie's!!!!" a small voice cries.

Well before I know it they have me trying them out for size!!!!

Herb on Tour

Herbie

I have just got back from my holidays. I spent the week in Sunny Sunderland. I made friends with a dog who was only a little bit bigger than me. He was called Stuey! Stuey was super cool because he loves eating...just like me, and sleeping...just like me, and cuddling...just like me! The only problem was Stuey is a snorer! Gosh it was loud! I need a pair of ear muffs the next time we have a sleepover!

Stay and Play for Mother's Day

A cup of tea, a slice of cake, a bit of a play in Early Years... What more could a busy Mum want for Mother's Day?

Alana treats her Mum to a quick painting lesson.

Whilst Madeline's Mum is given a Interactive Whiteboard tutorial.

Mason shows his Mum how to make little words with the letter blocks.

Jiayue and Mum make a picture.

The children loved having their adults join in the fun for our Stay and Play session. A BIG thank you to all of you who managed to visit us. All of our lovely Mums will need a well earned rest on Sunday after their EYFS adventures!
